The gospel of Luke presents us with the first look at Christmas. The birth of Christ as we all remember it is always a neatly packaged presentation. The story presented within Luke’s narrative is not so tidy. He gives the real picture of two young people who are engaged to be married, going to Bethlehem to be counted in the census. The female is pregnant and is due to give birth any day. They arrive to find no room at the Inn. She would find lodging in the area where animals are kept. It held the stench of the animals. The Savior of the world was born in the midst of a filthy animal stall and laid in a trough as a crib to redeem all of humanity.
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luke 2:14
